受 COVID-19 疫情影響延期的 2021 年第 78 屆金球獎頒獎典禮，終於在美東時間 2 月 28 日晚間 8 點，台灣時間 3 月 1 日上午 9 點起舉行，不但替今年奧斯卡獎季揭開序幕，入圍名單揭曉後便話題不斷，尤其是入圍電影類「最佳導演」的 5 位導演中有 3 位是女性，也是金球獎設立至今首度有多於 1 位女性同時入圍該獎項，屢獲各大影展獎項肯定的華裔導演趙婷，繼威尼斯影展金獅獎後也藉《游牧人生》再抱回金球獎「最佳導演」獎座，《游牧人生》也從其他強片中脫穎而出，成為本屆金球獎最佳戲劇類電影。
由大衛芬奇執導的黑白傳記電影《曼克》，和講述英國王室近百年風華的 Netflix 影集《王冠》各獲 6 項入圍是本屆最多，而艾倫索金導演劇情電影《芝加哥七人案：驚世審判》，以及電視喜劇《富家窮路》皆獲得 5 項大獎提名也是奪獎熱門，；其他獎項皆是競爭激烈。
本屆金球獎各獎項得主自「最佳男配角」起陸續揭曉──電影類由於《猶大與黑色彌賽亞》(Judas and the Black Messiah) 有精采演出的男星：丹尼爾卡盧亞 (Daniel Kaluuya) 獲得，電視類則由約翰波耶加以《小斧頭》(Small Axe) 中的演出獲中評審青睞抱回。以下為這次的金球獎完整得獎名單（得獎者以紅字粗體標示）：
