凱特布希
1985 年，英國的《新音樂快遞雜誌》(New Musical Express, NME) 將〈Running Up That Hill〉列為當年的代表歌曲第三名，2022 年的三月，《新音樂快遞雜誌》在創刊 70 週年的紀念性文章〈關於 70 首最原創性歌曲在 NME 的故事〉中，再度列入〈Running Up That Hill〉，這次排名第 25。

創作型女歌手布希的唱腔充滿個人特色，音樂也有種獨特性格，連 MTV 的製作都融入個人理念——不以對口歌唱為主，而是以舞蹈表現音樂。布希的音樂與創作在當時並非主流，卻能以收錄〈Running Up That Hill〉的專輯《Hounds of Love》打入主流音樂市場，並且進入美國流行音樂排行榜，非常具有代表性。冰島的音樂才女碧玉 (Bjork) 也曾受布希的音樂影響，碧玉曾公開她最愛的十一張專輯，其中之一就是布希在 1982 年發行的第四章專輯《The Dreaming》。去聽聽單曲〈Dreaming〉，聽過就知道為何碧玉喜歡。

〈Running Up That Hill〉的主題，根據布希自己的說法，是在講人與人之間的換位感受。你我之間，很難了解他人的內心傷痛，你不懂我的痛，我也無法理解你的傷，於是，倘若我跟上帝約定好，來個交換身體，應該就能彼此了解，相互體諒。

這樣的歌詞內容，非常符合麥克斯在第四季剛開始的處境。麥克斯的所有朋友，都無法體會她因家庭破碎又失去哥哥的心痛，已經升上高中，卻總是獨來獨往，唯一貼心的就只是耳機與音樂。
之後，麥克斯飽受幻覺與惡夢困擾，鎮日心神不寧，加上原本糾纏於內心的愧疚、自責、與悲傷，更難以向友人啟齒。於是雖然麥克斯嘴硬，總是說沒事沒問題 (It doesn’t hurt me)，但是實際上，她早就已經內心滿滿是傷 (Do you want to feel how it feels?)，自己不知如何處理 (there is thunder in our hearts)，連輔導老師都沒有辦法。
麥克斯的心聲
於是，〈Running Up That Hill〉唱出麥克斯的心聲，她渴望有人理解，渴望獲得關心，也渴望遠離惡夢。就在麥克斯於顛倒世界，即將被威可那取走性命的當頭，〈Running Up That Hill〉忽然在遠方響起，這是來自朋友的關愛，讓顛倒世界的遠方露出曙光，同時打開一扇天堂之門。此刻，麥克斯賣命狂奔，一定要奔上遠方的山丘上，因為那是通往友誼與愛的出口。
終於，麥克斯意識到，不是朋友不理解她，也不是朋友不願意幫忙，倘若想要與他人換位感受，首先必須打開心房，願意與他人述說與溝通。當友誼與愛都一直存在，沒有什麼事情辦不到，也沒有什麼難關過不去，畢竟，最後他們肯定會戰勝威可那。
〈Running Up That Hill〉這首歌曲會在 2022 年 5 月 27 日《怪奇物語》第四季發行之後，短短數日登上 iTunes 排行榜的首位，成為道地的「麥克斯之歌」，不僅是因為歌曲好聽洗腦，貼切的歌詞內容，也是讓人不禁喜愛之因。《怪奇物語》的製作團隊在音樂選曲方面，從第一季到第四季，從不讓人失望，只有更欣賞與更佩服。
